The tournament formula has undergone changes: the first round will be held according to the standard scheme within the conferences (Western and Eastern), and from the second round the teams will be divided into two groups. The first group will feature the best remaining team in the Western Conference with the fourth team in the East, the other pair will be the second remaining seeded team in the East and the third team in the West. At the semi-final stage, the winners of these pairs will play each other. Second group: the first team of the East against the fourth team of the West, the second team of the West against the third team of the East. The winners of these pairs will also play each other in the next round. At the stage of the 1/2 finals there will be no reseeding of teams.
At all stages of the KHL playoffs, the KHL plays until four wins, the maximum number of games is 7. The team with the higher seeding number (from 1 to 8) gets the advantage of home ice, and the first two matches are played on its ice.
